I believe that the foundation of a successful therapeutic relationship is compassion and understanding. My aim is to work together to develop the best approach for the individual in therapy and adjust accordingly to the individual’s needs. By establishing goals with the individual, we can address the concerns and underlying issues that can change difficult. I have been in private practice for the last three years, where I earned my LMSW and have worked with a wide variety of clients. I am also a proud member of the LGBTQIA+ community and worked to advocate for social justice. I enjoy working with the LGBTQIA+ community, kink aware therapy, substance abuse counseling, trauma informed counseling, and couple’s counseling. I am experienced in working with a wide range of mental health concerns including; past/present trauma, anxiety, depression, personality disorders, substance abuse, life transitions, and more.

I believe that therapy is a process of sharing expertise and experience- you share your expertise and experiences from your life with me, I share my expertise and experiences with mental health and emotional well-being with you, & together we help you develop tools and strategies needed to live your best life. I have extensive experience working with children & families, survivors of abuse/neglect/trauma, ADHD, anxiety/depression. I work with LGBTQ+ youth & adults, & help caretakers of LGBTQ+ youth learn how to support a child questioning their identity. I am an anti-racist therapist & will always consider the impact systems of oppression have on mental health. I am neurodivergent, diagnosed in adulthood, and am passionate about helping others explore potential signs of neurodivergence that could be creating undue hardships in their life. I have a casual conversation style that helps make therapy feel less intimidating. If you are looking to gain clarity and insight surrounding your personal situation and life goals, I can help. Some people call me a professional hype-woman, but you can call me your therapist.

I want to help you to break out of any negative patterns that interfere with your life. These patterns can be as simple as procrastinating at school, work or at home. They could be more serious, such as anxiety, problematic relationships or addictions. The focus of our work can be any pattern which makes it difficult for you to meet your responsibilities, which are painful or which cause you to miss the joy in life. I believe that you possess the innate qualities necessary to ease your suffering and to heal. Part of my job is to point out, develop, and reinforce your skills, values and characteristics. I want to help you experience deeper satisfaction from your life, to attain your goals, and to have more fulfilling relationships. The end goal is to help you thrive. If you are interested in a partnership to help you meet the challenges in your life or to learn how to deal with difficult emotions or to see how rewarding life can be, I'm interested in working with you.

If you are struggling to communicate with a partner/loved one, repeatedly feel misunderstood or unable to meet each others' different emotional needs, you're likely left feeling frustrated, discouraged, even hopeless at times. You may be thinking, "Are we just too different from one another?" "Are we fundamentally incompatible?" Barring certain severe or egregious issues, my answer is usually: No, it's probably not that you're incompatible. But you may need a different level of understanding of yourself and your partner and different set of skills and strategies to break out of the current negative cycle. I specialize in helping adults approach relationship problems and other stressors (e.g., job, family), especially when the client or partner is known or suspected to have ADHD. I utilize several evidence-based treatment approaches (see below), but also incorporate the latest understanding of ADHD and certain other conditions into these therapy frameworks. No matter the therapy, finding a therapist that intuitively feels like a good personal fit to you makes a big difference. Please reach out to schedule a brief no-obligation phone consult to help make this decision. I am located near East Lansing, Michigan but see clients by video throughout Michigan, Idaho and Alaska.

Are you frustrated with just surviving when what you really want is to thrive? Maybe for you thriving means having healthy relationships. Or maybe you want to feel more confident, and able to identify and express values to live a more authentic life. Perhaps it's time to re-write narratives formed from childhood abuse or other traumatic event(s). My goal is to create a safe environment where you feel heard, and your problems understood, so we can begin the process of helping you live your best life. I serve individuals, couples and families with a strengths-based, mindful, emotionally-focused approach that empowers change. I have extensive training in the Gottman Method and Emotionally-Focused Therapy for Couples to address affairs, trauma and lack of intimacy in marriage. Other trainings: self-compassion and mindfulness techniques to reduce shame; mindfulness-based cognitive therapy for depression; and training to support LGTBQIA+ populations.
